$700 Worth of Items stolen from Hugine Suites

SC State Campus Police are in the process of investigating a burglary that took place on Monday Nov 3, in the K building of the Andrew Hugine Jr. Suites.

Four students were affected. These residents who did not want their names printed; each lost electronic items valued at at least $700.

According to the residents, the theft occurred between 3 and 6pm, when the residents are normally absent.

Initial entry into the suites was not forced. The door to the suite had been left open by the residents and two of the four bedroom doors appeared to be kicked in.

Electronic items, including four Playstations, a DVD player and electronic chords, were stolen from each of the residents in addition to a substantial sum of cash.

The residents suspect more items may have been stolen, which they have not been able to readily note.

Campus Police Chief, Gregory Harris could not be reached for comment before press time, however investigations are being carried out as law enforcement officers have already visited the scene.

The suite's residents are disgruntled, and they suspect that the perpetrators are familiar with their daily routines.

The residents are hoping that they may be able to receive some kind of compensation or that the person or persons responsible are held accountable.

Crime alerts posted by campus police on SC State's website, reveal that this is not the first incident to occur at Hugine Suites.

According to the alert, bedroom doors in Hugine Suites were kicked in on Oct 6, and an unspecified number of personal items including electronics were stolen. The perpertrators gained access to the suite because the suite door was left open.

This update encourages students to be cautious about their surroundings, as well as to lock the doors every time they leave the room.

Burglaries should be immediately reported.

Campus police may also be contacted for more information about personal safety and other crime prevention techniques.
