2. Faulty Plumbing Holds Students Hostage.
Honor student residents of building C 104 Andrew Hugine Jr. Suites, had to exit their rooms via their bedroom windows to escape the filth caused by the plumbing serving their suite. According to the residents, a mixture of fecal matter and tissue paper seeped out of the room housing their air conditioning unit and plumbing, into the kitchen area blocking their front door. All five members of the Student Government Association were installed on Tuesday Oct. 7 after President George E. Cooper over-ruled a decision made by SC State appeal board to uphold the removal of three of these members. Read More
4. Burglars run Rampant During Thanksgiving Break
SC State's Campus Police are investigating a string of burglaries at the Andrew Hugine Jr. Suites and the University Village apartments during the Thanksgiving break. A total of 12 burglaries have been recorded by police officials and paperwork for the remainder is still being filed. Read More
5. SC State in Top 50 College Rankings.....which one do we beleive?
Although Claflin University was coined the number one HBCU in the nation by Forbes magazine, yet another publication's rankings have been released and Claflin has not even made the top 50 list. SC State came in at number 49 in the 2008 Black Enterprise Magazine's Top 50 Colleges for African Americans. Read More
6. A Night of Elegance, the crowning of a Queen
After making one of the more memorable entrances in Cornation history, an elegent Geisha-like Uchechi Egbuhuzo, was offically crowned Miss SC State at the coronation ceremony aptly entitled "Memoirs of a Royal Occasion."Dressed in a scarlet red kimono which was draped over her white evening gown, Egbuhuzo's entrance on a Chinese style platform carried by her male attendants, stole the show. 7. Our Victory Celebrations
A sea of students poured into the streets of SC State in celebration of Barack Obama's landslide victory against republican nominee John McCain. Obama who has made history as the first African American U.S. President, inspired a midnight procession from the Fine Arts building towards the Plaza where the Marching 101 band led students in the victory celebrations. 8. Hugine Sues for Unlawful Firing.
On the heels of SC State's attempts to move in new directions by appointing Dr. George E. Cooper as President, former SC State President, Dr. Andrew Hugine Jr., finally sought what his lawyer termed as "vindication" for his removal from office in December 2007. Hugine in a press release dated July 30, announced that he had filed suit against the university as well as against former and present members of the Board of Trustees. Read More
9. Students Bear the brunt of Budget Cuts as Economy Worsens.
Just over a month ago, all public agencies, including SC State, lost 3 percent of their budget. The state of South Carolina is experiencing the socio-economic ills of the day including mortgage calamities, escalating unemployment and rising gas prices. At SC State, it is evident that the problems in the economy have trickled down to the students. ThinkPad computers that are loaned to business and honor students each semester are now unavailable. 10. Students Evacuated to University Village after accident.
Approximately 20 students were evacuated from University Village Apartment 300 when another resident accidentally drove into their apartment causing damage to the porch and staircase.
Eyewitnesses said that around 4pm on Sept 13 a resident, who was driving into a parking space attempted to stop, but hit her gas pedal instead of the breaks, and drove directly into the stairs. Read More
