SC State Cheerleaders First in MEAC Co-ed, Third Overall

SC State's Cheerleaders came in first in the co-ed competition and third overall at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cheerleading Championships, held at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum Annex of Winston-Salem.
In first place was three time champion North Carolina A&T cheerleaders with the group from Morgan State coming in second. Cheerleader Jaloria Heatley said it felt great to be in first place again and attributes much of their success to their dedicated coach, Shavanda Burnette.
"Our coach just kept telling us to never give up, and to claim the victory we worked so hard for." The sophomore computer science major explained that the squad practiced every day for two to three hours to secure the victory.
To the music of Chris Brown and T-Pain's "Freeze," mixed by alumnus DJ Cleave, the cheerleaders' copped the number one spot in the co-ed competition for the second time. The first being in 2008.
