SC State's Chirino Earns Great West Soccer Honor

NAPIERVILLE, Ill. - South Carolina State freshman Alejandra Chirino has been named soccer Offensive Player of the Week by the Great West Conference, the league announced Monday.
The defensive honor went to Jennifer Ogren of South Dakota. Chirino, a midfielder from Los Angeles, Calif., scored three goals in two matches, including the game-winning goal to give the Lady Bulldogs a 3-2 double overtime victory over Charleston Southern Sept. 15. She tallied 12 points and six assists on the week as SC State beat Alabama State 17-1 Sept. 18, setting a school record for goals. Chirino had two goals and five assists in the victory.
The Pasadena High graduate and her teammates, who have SC State off to its best start ever at 4-4, hosted highly regarded Wofford Monday at 7 p.m. at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
