Nothing feels better then applying a beat down to a conference opponent. The fact that it's homecoming only makes it sweeter. Malcolm Long has a career day and Oliver (Tre') Young had a banner day with 135 receiving as the bulldogs defeat the Delaware state hornets 52-10.

Long had his best day as the Bulldog quarterback with 337 total yards; two touchdowns passes, one rushing and no turnovers. Young caught both Long TD passes including an 80 yard bomb and surpassed Charlie Brown on the school receiving yards list. The Bulldog defense held the hornets to 225 total yards and caused two turnovers, one of which was returned for a touchdown. With that win, SC State improves to 7-1 keeping the Bulldogs in control of the MEAC.

On the Delaware State side, this game was one to forget. The Hornets allowed 513 total yards of offense to the bulldogs, which scored on there first 5 possessions. Only Larrone Moore's 90 yard kickoff return touchdown provided any excitement.

The Hornets used two quarterbacks in this game but went for 15 of 26 with two interceptions. Neither quarterback was bad, but anybody will tell you that no quarterback can be good if they have no time to throw.

Both the offensive and defensive lines were put through the ringer against this bulldog lineup. On the offensive side, the hornets couldn't get consistent push off the ball against a strong Bulldog front. This caused an inability to not only throw the ball, but run as well. With the defensive side of the ball, the hornets could not apply adequate pressure to the run or passing game due to amazing offensive line play. This was blatantly shown on play action when Long had enough time to not only throw the ball, but balance his checkbook.

Coach Buddy Pough called a great game, mixing in the pass and rush very effectively against the Hornets. The turning point of the game was when the Hornets finally stopped the bulldogs in the second half but gave up a first down on a roughing the kicker penalty. Delaware State had 69 penalty yards, most of which helped the Bulldog's scores in the first half.
