SC State University's I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium presents "The Reckoning" on Thursday, Mar. 11, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. Following the film, a discussion and reception will take place with director Paco de Onis. This is a free event.

"The Reckoning" was produced by Pamela Yates and directed by Paco de Onis as part of the Southern Arts Federation's Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. "The Reckoning" is a new paradigm for global justice. It was filmed at International Criminal Court (ICC) headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands for three years. Launched in 2002, the ICC is the first international tribunal of its kind. It is a permanent criminal court created to prosecute individuals for crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide.

"The Reckoning," is a feature-length documentary which follows prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo, deputy prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, and senior trial attorney, Christine Chung, as they issue arrest warrants for the Lord's Resistance Army leaders in Uganda. They also place four Congolese warlords on trial at The Hague, Netherlands and challenge the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to support the ICC's call for an arrest warrant for the president of Sudan on charges of genocide, shaking up the Colombian justice system.

The film also depicts dramatic ICC justice and the international law created and enforced by the voices of the people involved in international conflict. In the film, the audience will get a glimpse of people who are captured taking a stand against what can be done in order to end impunity as a result of notorious criminals. It also showcases the international justice movement.

Multi-lingual, fluently speaking Spanish, Portuguese, English, Italian and French, de Onís grew up in Latin America. De Onís produced the following documentaries: "On Our Own Terms," "Secrets from the Grave," "Police Force Paramedics" and "Edgewise."

Yates is the recipient of the 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship. She is the director of the Sundance Award-winning "When the Mountains Tremble," producer of "Loss of Innocence," and the executive producer of "Witness to War." Yates is the co-founder of Skylight Pictures, Inc. with de Onís and is a member of the Director's Guild of America (DGA) and The Writers Guild of America (WGA).
