SC State to Face Coppin State in the First Round of the 2010 MEAC Tournament

Winston-Salem, NC-The SC State women's basketball team will face Coppin State in the First Round of the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. The tournament, which is being contested at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC, will run from Tuesday, March 8 to Saturday, March 13.

SC State, who will be the #8 seed, enters the tournament with an 11-18 overall record. Coppin State meanwhile enters the tournament as the #9 seed with an overall record of 10-18.

This will be the third time this season the teams will face one another with each winning on the opponent's floor. In their first meeting in Orangeburg, SC on January 18, 2010, Coppin State came away with the ten point victory, 72-82. The Lady Bulldogs redeemed themselves on the February 13, 2010 when they defeated the Lady Eagles by 16, 69-53, in Baltimore.

Whitney Wiley and Sophilia Hipps are currently leading the Lady Bulldogs in scoring averaging 14.5 points each. Paris Alston is leading the team in rebounding and is third in scoring averaging 5.8 and 8.1 respectively.

Jeanine Manley is currently leading the way in scoring and rebounding for Coppin State, averaging 12.1 and 7.2 respectively.

The winner of Tuesday's game will face the #1 seeded North Carolina A&T in the quarter-final round of the MEAC Tournament on Wednesday at 12:30 pm.

Note: SC State and Coppin State finished the regular season with the same conference record (5-11); however, the Lady Bulldogs earned the higher seed due to a head-to-head tiebreak.
